German Adolf Diesinger #1102 Imperial Eagle Beer Stein
We are offering a very fine German Adolf Diesinger 0.5L pewter lidded beer stein. This stein is in great undamaged condition with the Imperil eagle which was the heraldic symbol of the Holy Roman Empire which existed in Europe from c. 962 until 1250 which represented the church and state. This treaded relief stein is very detailed. The phrase on the center cartouche reads “A clever drinker pockets the house key early in the morning”. Text is from the first part of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s classic play Faust, written during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In this scene, Faust attempts unsuccessfully to initiate a relationship with the servant girl Gretchen. My fair young lady, may I dare offer you my arm and company? Capacity 0.5 L. Germany 828 on the bottom. Measures: Height 8 inches, Diameter Base. Overall excellent condition, no damage, sleight discoloration, some crazing inside stein.
