This German Beer Stein with the pewter lid, whole piece, made of Porcelain! Not from the clays pottery! From 50th – 60th. Right after the company- factory was nationalized by the Est Germany government. Before that, in 1940 Schaubach factory based in Wallendorf and only produced high quality artistic porcelain. When surching prising I found this info, but I didn’t find anything close to this Beer Stein. This is an exceptional piece, with the intricate details. Superb hand – made and painted, with a very special medallion in the central part. It is not glazed as the whole beer stein, but made of the very fine porcelain mass – ” biscuit”. It’s required high skills to make almost 3D reliefs panel of a wild Boar head, you can even count the hairs on it, as. Well as the oak leafs on the branches! And a very fine brush strokes with the painting! Very difficult task, to combine different techniques and technology / like burning, gold painting / and materials, to get in the end absolutely perfect result! Every colour, especially gold, different porcelain masses, forms… Require special temperatures and very specific timeliness. A gold paint will turns black. C1897 American Sterling Silver Lidded. 5L Beer Stein German Brewing Monks Scene. Presented is a charming antique American ceramic beer stein with sterling silver lid, dating to circa 1897. This stein features a charming scene around the sides in blue and white, depicting two monks joyfully sampling liquor, against a background of the monastery’s brick walls and arched doorways, in the style of German painter Eduard von Grützner. The lid is done in sterling silver, finely hand chased with classic shell and scroll decoration, with a bold shell form thumbpiece. The top of the lid has a presentation reading Longwood Cricket Club May 1897 Lawn Tennis Tournament Handicap Club Doubles Second Prize won by H. This stein has a capacity of half a liter (500 milliliters/16.9 fluid ounces). This piece is in excellent overall condition. There is a single tiny chip around the edge of the foot, which is hard to notice without turning the stein over to inspect it. There are no other chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The sterling silver lid is in great shape, with no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The underside of the stein is signed with the maker’s mark for the Ceramic Arts Company, a renowned American art pottery company operating in Trenton, New Jersey. The sterling silver lid/thumbpiece are stamped with the maker’s mark for Gorham as well as sterling and product number, S2479. This mark is on the underside of where the thumbpiece is mounted to the handle. The stein stands about 6 3/4 inches to the top of the lid and measures about 4 1/4 inches in diameter at the base, or about 5 7/8 inches from the handle to the front.
