Description: This very interesting stein was made around mid-1800s – in 1850s-early 1860s. It is made of blown crystal glass flashed with deep ruby-red color. It was then stone-cut to make vertical facets. The sides of the steins are copper-wheel engraved – this was a technique that required some serious skills and created beautiful art work. On the front panel shows inscription” “Andenken von Marienbad” – “For the memory of Marienbad. This is a so-called “Spa” or souvenier stein – the steins of this type were made to commemorate somebody’s visit to a spa town. The side panels are nicely engraved with some views of the town of Marienbad – the famous spa town in mid 1800s. This type of glass beer steins was very common in 1870s. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia – now Czech Republic. Five ring closed type hinge. The lid is pewter with a clear glass inlay and small thumblift typical for mid-1800s.
