Offered for your consideration is an antique Bohemian etched red flash glass beer stein. It dates to the mid-19th century. The stein is in overall good used estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. There is a slight amount of play in the pewter mount’s hinge, a small inclusion in the glass lid, light surface scratches and scuffing here and there, and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Antique German engraved cut ruby glass beer stein, dated 1877 Bohemian w lid
Beautiful piece that displays very well, has some minor flaws. Small chip in the glass lid near the edge. There is an impact mark or surface chip just right of the bottom handle joint. There is a small flake/chip on the bottom edge of one of the side panels. Lid fits squarely and looks nice but is a bit’loose’ when open. There are two flea bite chips on the top rim, otherwise it is smooth. Expected shelf wear and scratching on the bottom. Looks great on the shelf, no cracks, no repairs or modifications. Description: This very interesting stein was made around mid-1800s – in 1850s-early 1860s. It is made of blown crystal glass flashed with deep ruby-red color. It was then stone-cut to make vertical facets. The sides of the steins are copper-wheel engraved – this was a technique that required some serious skills and created beautiful art work. On the front panel shows inscription” “Andenken von Marienbad” – “For the memory of Marienbad. This is a so-called “Spa” or souvenier stein – the steins of this type were made to commemorate somebody’s visit to a spa town. The side panels are nicely engraved with some views of the town of Marienbad – the famous spa town in mid 1800s. This type of glass beer steins was very common in 1870s. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia – now Czech Republic. Five ring closed type hinge. The lid is pewter with a clear glass inlay and small thumblift typical for mid-1800s. The stein is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. It is a small children’s or woman’s stein 4.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.2L capacity. Height: 4.5 in. Track Page Views With. Antique Ruby Red German Bohemian Stone-Cut Glass Beer Stein w/Inlaid Lid c. Description: Presented is a beautiful ruby red glass German beer stein with inlaid pewter lid with fantastic decorations created in the late 1860s – 1870s in the German controlled Bohemia (now Czech Republic). The body of the stein is made of hand-blown Bohemian crystal glass with applied handle and large pontil mark on the bottom. It was flashed with ruby-red translucent layer. The glass then was engraved to clear with a copper wheel to create beautiful decorations giving a wonderful optical. The lid is pewter with a matching ruby-red cut glass inlay and the thumblift in form of a feather – a common thumblift for the late 1860s-1870s. The hinge is small five-ring closed type, this type of the hinge was used in the late 1860s. The stein is in excellent condition, with no lines, chips or repairs. Antique German Stein, Ruby Cut to Clear w/ Pewter Lid, dated 1852. This is an antique cut crystal German Stein with pewter and glass lid from the 19th century. Etched in glass and painted by hand, the words, “Gl&#######xFC;ck Gesundheit Freude” are commonly seen on celebratory and toasting steins, translating to “Luck Health Joy”. The imagery is symbolic of these words. From left to right, we see a cornucopia overflowing with bounty, the’Bowl of Hygieia’, Grecian goddess of health, and a guitar showing song and dance of the festive season. German beer steins date back to the 14th century as an innovative container for beverage, in which the pewter lids kept the liquid protected from contamination. Other drinking vessels and containers would follow this design. The word “Stein” is short for steinzeug krug, which means stoneware, tankard, or jug in German.
