Short YouTube condition video link in description below for best views. Surface cleaned and inspected for sale. Wear commensurate with age, display, storage, and moving. Expected antique production technique flaws. Interior crazing and spots as shown. Center hinge ring was broken sometime in the past. The upper portion of the broken ring protrudes slightly and prevents lid from opening fully. Opens as far as shown in photos. Appears someone tried an at-home repair to bend or remove the pewter that protrudes. I have not and will not attempt any repairs. I will leave any cleaning or repairs to future owner. Strap and strap support are tight. Awesome, surviving example of this more scarce stein would make a very special gift for the antique, sports related, or character beer stein collector.

Antique German Beer Stein Creussen Apostles Apostelkrug c. Description: Antique German beer stein made to imitate Renaissance period beer steins made in Creussen in 1600s. These Creussen beer vessels were extremely expensive at the time and very prestigious. In 1880s – 1890s several beer stein manufacturers produced steins imitating faience of 1700s, Creussen and Annaberg stoneware and some Westerwald stoneware of 1600s – 1700s. They were not trying to fake or reproduce them but just worked in popular at the time style called Historismus. This stein is a fine example of Historismus style. It’s form and decorations imitate Creussen steins of mid-1600s with the Twelve Apostles Theme – they show 12 figures with halos representing the twelve Apostles. The stein is made of dark brown stoneware – exactly like Creussen’s – handpainted with brightly colored ceramics paint. The stein has no cracks, chips or other structural damage. Some extensive paint wear. The lid is engraved with initials F. The lid is original to the date but is a replacement lid for the stein. The foot ring is original to the stein. Please note – I have included a picture from Johannes Vogt catalog to show the original Creussen. It is not the one for sale. It is 7 tall to the top of the finial, 1L capacity. Antique Large German Stoneware Beer Stein, Genre Hunting Scene in Relief, c1900
This antique German stoneware beer stein depicts a lively tavern scene in relief and is a fine addition to any breweriana collection. Crafted around 1900, this large lidded stein was made in Germany and features intricate details that showcase the country’s rich brewing heritage. Blue Red Green and Cream colors! A lidded stein, and it appears to have been manufactured in Germany but makers mark appears to have been worn over time and age. The stein’s theme revolves around breweriana, and the hunting scene depicted on it adds to its uniqueness. There are two noted things that I want to call out. One the top of the pewter lid appears to be slightly bent (could be how it was made but I want to call it out). Two there is a slight crack on bottom of stein. It’s not through and is hairline.

Antique German/Austrian Early Faience Beer Stein Birnkrug Gmunden dat. Description: Presented is a very old German/Austrian beer stein made in the mid-1700s. The stein was made in the factory of Gmunden – now it’s a small town in north Austria that was once famous for faience production. The stein is made of brownish clay with a tin-based white glaze. The steins of this shape are called “Birnkrug” or “pear-shaped stein”. It is decorated with a hand-painted floral design. The decoration is typical for Gmunden with vivid colors and bands on top and bottom. The combination of grass-green and dark yellow is also very typical for Gmunden. The pewter mounts consist of a dome-shaped lid with a large hollow ball for the thumblift, a five-ring closed-type hinge, and a foot ring. The lid engraved with initials M. And is stamped with pewter hallmarks consistent with the age. It is 9.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, about 1 L capacity. The stein is in a good condition for the over 260 year old piece. There is a professional repair to a chip on the upper edge see the last pic. The lines you see on the pictures are the glaze crazing – there is no damage to the body. ” Renaissance Drinker & Castles with Saying “. German ceramic, etched, 2.5 L, pewter lid. The text on the body reads: Wohlbekomm’s! Bier, Lieb und Lied schaffen froh gemüt. And translates to : To your health! ” & “Beer, love and song create a happy disposition. Condition and Description: Very Good+ condition specimen. Only condition issues of note, an original factory defect under the glaze, just above the base and directly below the 3 leaves & the pewter lid has a couple dings and some slop (exactly as pictured). This is a great stein, with nice color and tremendous presence! In particular, the side scenes of castles with saying are quite interesting. Height: 15.8 tall from base to top of finial.
