Antique German Hauber&Reuther HR Beer Stein Etched #159 Etched and Tapestry c. The steins produced by HR are ones of the most collectable and desirable for the excellent quality and rarity. The stein is made of pottery in combined technique of tapestry and etched. The “tapestry” HR steins generally have an etched raised panel with the main picture, a pewter lid, and a verse etched into a relief banners located on the sides of the stein. The etched beer steins by HR were of excellent quality compared only to Mettlach. The stein was also hand-touched to accent the details. It depicts a gentleman in traditional Bavarian clothes sitting at the table with a beer stein in his hand. The saying reads: Guter Trank, guter Muth, kommt dem ganzen Land zu gut. Good drink, good courage, the whole country will profit from it. Please note the the etched tapestry-type steins by HR doesn’t come up very often. It is in excellent flawless condition, there are no chip nor cracks. The stein is 6.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Height: 6.5 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Antique Mettlach Etched Tapestry Stein 2967 Farmers with Piglets Mug 0.5L Stein
Antique 1/2L Mettlach Art Nouveau Tapestry Stein #2967. The Villeroy & Boch factory was originally established on the grounds of a former Benedictine abbey in 1809 on the Saar river in southwest Germany by Johann Franz Boch-Buschmann who merged with his competitor Nicholas Villeroy in 1836 to create the firm of Villeroy & Boch. There are over 1500 different steins, no definite number is known but is estimated of up to 2000 were produced, with just as many varied & talented artists. This particular stein is of the Art Nouveau Tapestry series. Titled “Farmer with pigs”. Securely & is made of pewter and beautifully designed. The German writing on the stein translates as follows. The stein is in overall good used estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Large Antique German Saltgalzed Stoneware Westerwald Etched Beer Stein/Pitcher c. Description: This very large antique pouring beer stein was made around the mid-1850s. It is a very traditional type of serving beer steins or “master steins” – large with a bulbous form called “Birnkrug” or “pear-shaped steins”. The stein is made of saltglazed stoneware hand-turned and manually decorated with a beautiful etched and incised into the body floral patterns. This was done with several kinds of wooden sticks when the clay was still soft. It is also glazed with cobalt -blue glaze The lid is pewter with the “combination” thumblift. Five-ring large closed type hinge. The stein is most likely from 1840s period. The lid is engraved with initials L. The stein is in excellent condition for the age – there are no cracks or hairlines. There are some manufacturing impurities due to the pre-industrial manual manufacturing technology. It is large and impressive pouring steins, standing 14 to the top of the thumblift, 2 1/2 L capacity. The capacity mark is etched in clay by the handle I guarantee my dating and description!
