Antique Salt Glaze Stoneware German Westerwald Stein Lidded Beer Mug 1880s
This is a great Antique Salt Glaze Westerwald. It is a 1/2 litre Beer Mug with a fancy pewter lid. I think that the decoration is of contemporary life. There is a banner with writing around the top. Something about hunger and thirst? CRUDELY MADE in a 3 piece mould and Salt glazed on a stoneware body. It is of the type made in some of the many factories in the the Westerwald area of Germany. This will most likely date from around the last half of the 1800s. Well used with a few chips around the rim. Stand 7.1/2 inches to the top of the handle. 2 Early Antique German Beer Steins, Lidded Pewter Hinged Tops, Salt Glaze Pottery
2 Early Antique Salt Glaze German Beer Steins, Pewter Hinged Tops. Two early German Steins. Both come from a family in Indiana. One is blue salt glaze and the other is brown with blue. Gorgeous decorations on each, check all my pictures. Both have ornate pewter covers and writing on each top rim. The blue does have Germany on the bottom and the brown has the number 7. The brown has a chip, but in great condition, not cracks or hairlines. The blue has a kiln made chip on handle and loose cover… One side of hinge is missing. Both have decent cover tops and will still work fine, just the blue is loose a bit, but can be fixed. I tighten the hinge and the top stays okay. Both steins need an inside cleaning. They measure about 8 1/2 High. Thank you and May God Bless See my other listings. For more great items! I’m happy to combine other of my listings as long as you let me know within 24 hours.
