Rare Antique German Stein Nudes & Krampus with Eagle Thumblift
Up for sale is a rare antique German beer stein with a cobalt blue salt glaze. The decorated pewter lid has an eagle thumb lift. The handle has a raised leaf design. There are three figures on the stein – a Krampus like figure dancing with a beer stein in one hand and a club in the other. He wears a hood with horns attached. The other two figures are nude women – one like Venus standing on a large seashell om the sea with a rising (or setting) sun in the background. The other nude is more like a Lorelei figure sitting on a rock in the waves. The outside of the stein is textured with a fine cloth like weave. There are blue stripes and near the bottom a decorated stripe with raised dot stripes above and below. The photos should answer most questions. Unmarked but probably dates to the late 1800s. In very good condition with a small chip on the underside and a small mark on the edge of the lid. A very unusual old stein with unusual decorations.

Antique German Blown and Stone Cut Glass Beer Stein with Traveling Man Thumblift c. This beautiful and very elegant beer stein was made around 1880s – 1890s of blown glass with attached handle and glass inlaid pewter lid. It is made in a shape of a goblet with a short stem and wide foot and decorated with stone cut facets for great optical effect. The pewter lid is nice and ornate, with the glass inlay also stone-cut to create a diamond-like look. The thumblift is in a form of a travelling man with a backpack, a walking stick and a flask in his hand, very interesting and unusual. The stein is in excellent flawless condition. Please note – the glass beer steins are the ones that could be actually used for drinking – I wouldn’t recommend drinking from antique stoneware or pewter, but antique glass cleans perfectly. Antique German Beer Stein Hunting Theme w/Dog Thumblift by Wächtersbach c. Description: This beauti ful and impressive antique German beer stein was made by the Wächtersbach ceramics factory – a factory with an old history of producing excellent quality ceramics items. The factory was established in 1832 as the Waechtersbacher Keramik in Brachttal- Schlierbach in Hesse, near the town of Wächtersbach. Between the end of the 19th and the middle of the 20th century, it was one of the most important German manufacturers of earthenware goods, both in terms of the scope of production and the quality of its design. However, the factory was making lots of everyday ceramics for German consumers, but beer steins were really scarce – there are just a few models that were made – and my guess is they were all made in late 1870s – early 1880s under the factory manager Max Roesler. The next manager, Christian Neureuther, moved the company towards Jugendstil/Art Nouveau direction. This stein was made in the early 1880s from very fine stoneware with some glass-based glaze. It was molded and filled with liquid clay, so the details became quite sharp and precise. The high-raised bas-relief decorations show hunting scenes on the sides with some hunting paraphernalia – a trophy bag, a horn, a rifle, and a long knife (along with a flask with some liquid) – in the middle. The lid is made of pewter with a beautiful figure of a dog for the thumblift and an inlay made of the same stoneware material with a hunting hat for the finial. It is marked with incised “Wächtersbach” and letters “H” and P. I was not able to decipher these. Th e stein is in excellent condition – no cracks, chips or any kind of damage or repairs. The lid is sitting very tight. It is 7.75 to the top of the thumb lift, 0.5L capacity. Height: 7.75 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Antique Early German Glass Beer Stein – Blown and Molded with Lion Thumblift circa 1830s. Description: This beautiful and very old beer stein was made of blown glass in about 1830s – 1840s. The stein is very typical for the first half of the 1800s with large blown body and the ribbon type attached handle. The lover part of the body seems to be blown into a mold to create vertical facets without cutting. Very unusual and rare technique. Later, in 1860s, mold-blown glass steins became more common only to be replaced by pressed glass. This one shows the beginning of mold-blown technology. Nice pewter lid in perfect condition with a lion thumblift typical for late Biedermeier period of 1820 – 1830. Large 5-ring closed hinge. There is a pewterer’s hallmark on the inside of the lid – “Viehweg”. This mark belongs to one of the the master pewterers from the Vieweg (or Viehweg) family that was working in German Saxony for several generations. The stein is in excellent condition. Note, that the lower part of the handle is not broken – it was the method of attaching these days when the lower part was snapped after attaching. This method was used up to 1860s. Sometimes the snapped end was a little polished, but most of the time it was left as is. Please note – the stein is original from the period! I guarantee my description and dating. Antique Early German Etched Glass Beer Stein withSwan Thumblift c. 1830s
Antique Early German Etched Glass Beer Stein Swan Thumblift circa 1830s. This beautiful stein was made in the 1830s, it is guaranteed old give ot take 10 years. It is made in a very traditional style of freehand blown glass with copper whell engraving and the pewter lid. The stein is decorated with etched drawings of stylized floral design. This type of decoration was produced with a small copper wheel. Cutting and engraving glass with lathe mounted copper wheels smeared with a grit paste is older than glass itself, originating in early Babylon or Egypt with cut gemstones. The belt driven lathe carries a range of interchangeable spindles, each carrying a copper wheel of varying width, diameter and profile, to suit the cut. A loose paste of emery or carborundum grit, oil and paraffin is applied to the turning copper wheel. The lid is pewter with the thumblift in form of swan spreading wings and lowering its neck, and 5-ring closed-type hinge. The animal/bird thumblifts were mostly used in the 1820s-1840s. I have a feeling that these swan or maybe it is heron? With lowering the neck is maybe connected with a loss of a person and comfoting gift. The lid is engraved with initials M. ” The lid is also stamped with the pewterer’s mark – “J. The stein is in excellent condition – a very rare occurence with the steins these old. There are no lines, no chips or any other damage to the body whatsoever. The lid is in good shape with no damage or repairs and is sitting pretty tight. B rown Vintage or antique? German Enamelware Beer Stein with white interior. The thumblift is a pewter Edelweiss with pewter surrounding the matching enamel lid. Measures: stein is 9 1/8″ tall and with thumblift 10″ tall. 5″ at the widest of the stein & 6 1/2″ with the handle. C ondition: There appears to be a weld/bond mend at the bottom and a few minor dents and a few minor enamel flaked off areas on the bottom and the handle. Please see pictures of all of these.
