Condition and Description: Overall in excellent condition – the only minor knock is a faint 1/2 surface line on the figural lid (shown in last pic, exactly as pictured). This is a curious stein, not just because it is of a Dachshund with a wonderful expression and stance, but it is yet to be cataloged in the beer stein library. A fun and unique character stein, that displays incredibly well! Height: 10 tall from base to top of figural lid. Width: 3.5 at the widest portion of base. Please feel free to message me with any questions, and thanks for looking!

Antique Early German Westerwald Stoneware Beer Stein Walzenkrug c. 1750s
Antique Early German Westerwald Stoneware Beer Stein Walzenkrug c. Description: The beer steins made before 1800 are quite rare – at that time, before the industrial revolution, the production was all manual. Every stein made in the early period was unique, decorated by hand and rarely replicated. This beautiful stein was made in the mid-1700s, it is guaranteed old give or takes 10 years. It is made in a very traditional style of grey stoneware with cobalt-blue glaze. This is a very traditional beer drinking vessel – a type that was produced for over centuries, from the mid-1600s to mid-1800s. The production of saltglazed stoneware beer steins in the Westerwald region of Germany reached the highest quality by the end of the 18th century. The stein is quite elaborately etched all over the body with beautiful floral decorations. The decorations are etched into the clay with a sharp instrument. There are also another kind of decor – pressed with a stamp in between the etched ones. These pressed decor is a sign of mid-1700s, they were not used later as too expensive. The stein is also glazed with cobalt-blue glaze, fired and saltglazed. The lid is pewter with hollow ball ribbed thumblift – this type of thumblifts was used throughout the entire 1700s. The lid is engraved with the original owner initials: F. The stein is in excellent for the age condition – there a very small flake on the upper rim see pics. But there are no larger chips, cracks or even hairlines. There is also no damage or repairs to the pewter apart from normal wear. The stein is large and impressive, standing 10 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity. I guarantee the authenticity. Condition: Excellent w/minor flake and age related wear. Antique Early Pewter Engraved German Beer Stein Walzenkrug Saxonian dat. 1785
Antique Early Pewter Engraved German Beer Stein Walzenkrug Saxonian dat. Description: This very interesting and impressive beer stein was made in Germany in the early 1800s. It is a so-called “Walzenkrug” – a cylindrical form beer drinking vessel that was very popular in 1700s. The thumblift is a hollow ball – please note that the hollow balls for the thumblift is a very good sign of authenticity. They never made solid balls for the thumblift before 1850 – 1860 and there is no repros with hollow balls – I guess it is very hard to reproduce. The form of the base and the lid is usually associated with Saxonian pewter tradition. The stein is elaborately engraved all over. It has a large Saxonian Coat-of-Arms engraved on the front with Saxonian Royal crown and floral de corations on the sides. Beautiful and skillful work of art. The lid is engraved with initials M. It is fully marked with pewterer’s and town marks for Carl Gottfried Klemm jr. A pewterer who became master in 1758 and inherited the shop from his father who established it in 1708 in Reichenbach, Saxony. I have provided a sc an of his pewter touch marks from the E. Hintze monumental work on German pewter marks see my last pic. The stein is in incredibly good condition – it has some very minimal dings but no damage whatsoever – a rare condition for beer steins this old. It is practically impossible to fake the touch marks of a real pewterer from the period. I have been collecting beer steins for many years and I can stand behind my words. The stein is large and impressive, it is 9 tall, about 1L capacity. Title: Antique Pewter German Beer Stein Wlazenkrug Saxonian c. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.

Antique Matching Pair of German Glass Beer Steins withPorcelain Inlays c. 1870s
Antique Matching Pair of German Glass Beer Steins w/Porcelain Inlays c. This very impressive and spectacular matching pair of glass beer steins were made around the 1870s. The steins were mold blown to create molded vertical facets on the inside with stone-cut circles on the outside, creating a beautiful optical effect. They were supplied with applied handles and pewter lids with pictures hand-painted over transfer outlines. They show a man and a woman dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes. Very nicely and precisely painted portraits. The glass (and sometimes stoneware or porcelain) beer steins with porcelain inlays featuring beautiful women were quite common. But here we have two identical steins, but one inlay portrays a woman, another one – a man. Most likely, they were a wedding gift for newlyweds – beer steins were quite expensive at the time and were considered perfect wedding gifts. Two beautiful old drinking vessels in excellent condition and historical and cultural significance! The steins are 5.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.3L capacity. Height: 8.25 in. Materials: Glass, pewter, porcelain. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Antique German Green Glass and Silver Plate Beer Stein Historismus by WMF c. Description: Presented is a beautiful German beer stein made of hand-blown green glass with fantastic silverplated mounts. The stein was made in around 1892 and is designed in distinctive “Historismus” style with Renaissance style decorations and lion thumblift. The stein was manufactured by WMF or Wurtemburgische Metallwaren Fabrik – very famous for it’s Art Nouveau and Historismus designs and unique silverplate technique. It was designed under the influential sculptor/designer Albert Mayer. Mayer was appointed head of the Art Studio in 1894. WMF was a major German metal ware designer company, operating in many countries. The glass is stone cut creating facets for beautiful optical effects. There is a presentation engraving on the lid reading: Ihrem hochgeschatzen I. Vorsitzenden “Geselschaft Edelweiss 23/7/92″ – “To our esteemed 1st chairman of “Edelweiss Society” July 23d 1892″. Antique Early German Bavarian Pewter Beer Stein Walzenkrug Engraved dat. 1796
Antique German Bavarian Pewter Beer Stein Walzenkrug Engraved dat. Description: This very interesting and impressive beer stein was made in Germany about 200 years ago or more. It comes into the “Early” category – German beer stein manufactured before 1850 – the time of industrialization. Steins made before the industrial age were made and decorated by hand with every piece unique and special. It is a so-called “Walzenkrug” – a cylindrical form beer drinking vessel that was very popular in the 1700s – early 1800s. The thumblift is a hollow ball – please note that the hollow balls for the thumblift are a very good sign of authenticity. They never made solid balls for the thumblift before 1850 – 1860 and there are no repros with hollow balls – I guess it is very hard to reproduce. The lid of the stein is engraved with the original owner’s initials F. The inside of the lid shows the pewterer’s marks. The marks belong to Johann Adam Herold (or Herolt) who became a master in 1787 worked in the Bavarian town of Hof in the late 1700s. In fact, half of the pewterers ever worked in Hof had a family name Herold. The other half were Hohenners. I have in my inventory another beer stein fron Hof – it is dated 1836 and is the occupational shoemaker’s stein. The stein is in a very good condition – the pewter is very solid, there are some very minor age-related dings and scratches, but there is no major dents, damages or repairs whatsoever. Please note – the stein is an authentic original pewter drinking vessel from the late 1700s. The maker and the place are properly determined. The stein is 10.25 tall, 1L capacity. Height: 10.25 in.
