Antique Tricycle Photo Transfer Lithophane German Beer Stein Big Wheel Bicycle
Antique personalized photograph transferware 12 tall 1 Liter Lidded German Lithophane Beer Stein. The very rare and unusual one of a kind late Victorian photo shows two young children with a big wheeled tricycle. The stein is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, excessive wear or signs of previous repairs. The steins lid has no bends or dents but is slightly loose on the handle, it shows no damage so I would assume it was made this way. The lid can rock left to right on the handle slightly. The mug also shows a small spider crack in the bottom that also appears to be from manufacturing during the lithophane stamping process. The crack is in the pottery under the glaze and can not be felt on the glaze at all. Over all it appears to only been displayed and shows no signs of use at all, the photo shows excellent and hand painted gold trim only shows very slight wear. This colorful etched Stein is dedicated to the sport of cycling. It is showing some bikers and it is marked with the slogan. “All Heil” which means “Good Luck” – It is signed FB on top of the door. The stein was made by Hauber & Reuther – Freising Germany- one of the major names of german manufacuturers. The model number is 438. Simply a great piece of sports memorabilia. Good condition with some traces of age – thumb lift with missing piece available – see picture – small damage to stand almost not to be seen when displayed. 8.4 inch tall by 4 in Diameter. “High Wheel Bicycle Rider”. German ceramic, etched, 1/2 L, inlaid lid. Text Reads, “Deutscher Rad-Fahrer Bund” & All Heil! And Translates to, “German Cycling Federation” & Safe Travels! By Marzi & Remy – thumblift engraved 1888 = 135 years old! Condition and Description: Overall in excellent+ condition, only minor quibble is some slop at the pewter strap (lid sits perfectly flush when left at rest – exactly as pictured). This a fantastic and uncommon high wheel bicycle stein with great color, tremendous presence and displays incredibly well! The thumblift is quite striking, it is of a large ram holding a shield that has custom engraving – “RV”, 1888 & Kreis Gelhausen. Height: 9.3 tall from base to top of thumblift. Antique German Art Nouveau/Jugendstil Pewter Serving Beer Stein Bicycle Bike League c. Presented is a beautiful and very stylish beer stein designed in a very distinctive Jugendstil style – the German version of Art Nouveau. This style is very specific to Germany – it is characterized by simplistic and at the same time unusual linear forms. This style was extremely popular at the time. It lasted only a decade or two, but changed the perception of design forever. The stein is decorated with a Radfahrer Bund (Bicycle League) medallion and a presentation inscription: Ihren Wunderfahrten zum Andenken. 21 I guarantee the dating of around 1905 give or take 3 – 5 years. The stein is in a very good condition with some minor scratches and dings unavoidable in such a soft metal as pewter but no structural damages, losses, or repairs. It would require some cleaning but I will leave it to the new owner – some people prefer the antique look and patina for the pewter objects, some like to polish them to get a near silver impression it was intended to give at the time of manufacturing. Antique German Green Glass Beer Stein High Wheel Bicycle Bike Theme c. Description: Presented is a fantastic antique German beer stein made of bottle-green glass with inlaid pewter lid. The body of the stein was hand-blown of bottle-green glass, stone-cut to create vertical facets engraved with copper wheel to make beautiful flower bouquets ornaments. The pedestal and handle were also stone-cut. The lid is pewter with bronze inlay showing two cyclists on high-wheel bicycles. The inscription above the cyclists reads: “All Heil” – that was the official motto of the sports of cycling in old Germany. It means “All well” literary but was used as Safe travel! The high-wheelers or “penny-farthing” bicycles were common in the 1880s, by the mid-1890s they were mostly replaced by the safety bicycles. Bicycle sports was very popular in Germany in the 1880s – early 1900s. There are many steins featuring bicycles and bicycle societies themes, but glass steins are quite rare among them for some reason. Great glass stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. Antique German Beer Stein 4F Sports Bicycle Bike Ludwig Jahn by R. Description: This antique German beer stein is dedicated to Turnfest – the most popular German sports event in the late 19th – early 20th century. The “4F” logo which stands for “Frisch, Fromm, Froh, Frei” (fresh, pious, happy, free). It was the symbol of the 4F movement that has united the “Turnverein” or gymnastic sports clubs all over Germany into a nationwide movement. The stein is made of saltglazed stoneware – the classical German grey stoneware with cobalt blue glaze. The picture on front is the portrait of Ludwig Jah (1778 – 1852), the “father” of German 4F gymnastics festivals, a man who made enormous contributions to popularizing sports activities – he is credited with design of gymnastics bean, parallel bars, vaulting horse, etc. He organized the first 4F sports events that later became so popular. On the side of the stein we can see Putti or Amours playing with barbells and dumbells, fencing swords and other sports attributes. There are also banners with with various sports and patriotic sayings – like Gut Heil! – the official motto of 4F movement. The inscription at the bottom reads: Lasst Kraft uns erwerben mit Herz u. Mit Hand, zu leben u. Zu sterben für’s heil’ge Vaterland. Let us acquire strength with heart and with hand. To live and to die for the Holy Fatherland. The lid is very ornate pewter with a figure of a bicycle rider on top – apparently it was a special order lid for a bicycle sports enthusiast. But most likely it was made by R. Hanke – all the features point to this well-known stein maker. The stein is in a excellent condition. It is 8.5 tall to the top of the finial, 0.5L capacity. Height: 8.5 in.
