Antique German Stoneware Beer Stein King Gambrinus Regensburg Inlaid Lid c. 1870s
Antique German Stoneware Saltglazed Beer – Stein King Gambrinus Regensburg Inlaid Lid c. Description: This type of very old German beer steins is traditionally called “Regensburg” type even though the majority of them were produced in the Westerwald region. These steins are different from the very traditional Westerwald beer vessels – they did not use cobalt-based glaze so the steins keep natural clay color. In Germany, they call them “Model” steins referring to the method of manufacturing. These steins were press-molded to a wooden form, they were turned afterward to make the insides round, then they were fired and the salt was applied to create the very solid surface. The stein is circa the 1870s. The relief decor on the front of the stein shows King Ga mbrinus – the legendary inventor of hopped malt beer. It was a very common subject for Regensburg steins – a massive figure of the King sitting on a beer barrel and saluting with a stein. The sides of the stein are decorated with hops vines. The lid is pewter with 5-ring closed-type hing and the thumblift sitting on the lid – all typical for the 1870s. There is a porcelain inlay in the lid with hand-painted words: “Zum Andenken” – “For the memory”. The stein is in excellent condition – a rare thing for a stein this old. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. There are some manufacturing impurities, but they all are part of the manual manufacturing process. Remember, the Regensburg steins of the 1860s – 1870s were not industrialized ware, there were made by hand in small shops. The manufacturing glitches only make these pieces even more interesting. Large and impressive antique beer vessel with about 150 years of history behind it. It is 9.75 tall to the top of the thumblift, over 1L capacity. Height: 9.75 in. Antique German Westerwald Stoneware Beer Stein Walzenkrug Applied Decor c. 1690s
Antique German Westerwald Stoneware Beer Stein Walzenkrug with Applied Decor circa late 1600s. This beautiful stein was made in the late-1600s or very early 1700s, it is guaranteed old give or take 10 years. It is made in a very traditional style of gray stoneware with cobalt-blue glaze. This is a very classic beer drinking vessel – a type that was produced for over centuries, from the mid-1600s to the mid-1800s, using manual throwing and hand-created decorations. The production of saltglazed stoneware beer steins in the Westerwald region of Germany reached the highest quality by the end of the 18th century. The stein is decorated with applied relief bands of stylized geometrical ornaments. The applied relief on Westerwald steins is a clear sign of very early production. There are also some incised decorations in form of hexagrams that were etched into the clay with a sharp instrument. These hexagrams in old Germany were. Associated with beer brewing. The lid is pewter with a 5-ring closed-type hinge, scallop-shaped thumblift and a small spike for a finial. These are also good signs of the late 1600s – very early 1700s production. The stein is in excellent mint condition for the age. There is no cracks or chips that occurred as the result of damage. There is a small clay hollow on the handle and another one on the upper lip see pics. They are glazed over – so it’s manufacturing issues, not posterior damage. There is only some very minor glaze flakes/wear on the bottom rim. The lid is sitting tight and there is no damage to the pewter as well. These are truly excellent conditions for the stein this old. It is 7.5 tall, 0.5L capacity. Condition: Excellent w/minor wear. Year: late 1600s – early 1700s. Height: 7.5 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Rare Large Antique German Beer Stein by S. P. Gerz Gresrhenana Model #BB c. 1880s
Unusual Large Antique German Beer Stein S. Gerz Gresrhenana Model #BB c. Description: This very unusual German beer stein is quite unusual for a German beer vessel. It was manufactured by S. Gerz – one of the most famous names in German beer stein production in late 1800s – early 1900s in a typical English manner. This squat form is quite common for the so-called “English brown jugs”, as well as applied decorations that were called “springs” by English manufacturers, showing characteristic English gentlemen-beer lovers. Such very distinctive beer vessels were made in the mid-1800s by Doulton Lamberth, Kishere Mortlake, Denby, etc. Even the pewter lid is made in a specific English manner with the English-style small hinge. It is most lakely made specifically for the British market market – I also know of some similar S. Gerz beer steins with the inscription on the stein, which is the main element of design, made in English. It is quite possible that the whole “Gresrehnana” brand was even created for the British market This technique is specific to S. Gerz and is called “Gresrhenana” – I guess S. Gerz hold a special patent rights on it that are indicated in Ges. Mark on the bottom. The bottom is also marked with S. The stein is in excellent flawless condition – a collector’s dream. Again, it is 6.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1.5 L capacity – large and impressive. Height: 6.5 in. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With. Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmers Occupation c. 1820s
Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmer’s Occupation c. Description: This very interesting stein was made in the so-called Biedermeier period of 1800 – 1820. It is made of blown crystal glass with a round pedestal and a massive hand-applied handle. The stein is nicely painted with glass enamel – this was a technique that required some serious skills and created beautiful artwork. It shows the tools of farmer’s trade – hayfork with a scythe and a rake. This is a typical “occupational” beer stein of the early 1800s, dedicated to the farmer’s occupation. This type of glass beer steins was very common in the 1800 – 1820. The steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia. The lid is of a steep type with the cone-shaped thumblift sitting on the lid and five-ring closed type hinge – also typical for this period. The lid is engraved with initials M. The stein has a line on the back, where the bottom of the handle connects. It is quite stable and shows a wonderful appearance. The stein is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Condition: Line on back, otherwise excellent. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter.
