Antique German Pewter Character Beer Stein Munich Child c. 1880s
Antique German Pewter Character Beer Stein – Munich Child c. This very interesting German beer stein belongs to the family of character steins – steins made in a shape of an object or person. They are also called “figural”. The stein presented is a “character” stein – made in the form of Munich Child, the symbol of the city of Munich. Created as the coat-of-arms or archival seal of Munich in 1239, the centrally depicted Münchner Kindl (Munich Child) has evolved from a hooded monk standing in front of Munich’s gate to a charming child and symbol of the city. The Child is holding a beer stein and a radish – this was a very popular beer snack in old Germany. The Munich Child character steins are probably the most common character steins ever. However, the all pewter character steins are quite rare. I’ve seen many pewter monks beer steins and also some other characters but this is the first time I see Munich Child. The stein is in excellent condition there is no breaks, tears or dings. The pewter is quite solid. It is 8 tall, 0,5L capacity. Year: 1 880 s. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Antique German Patriotic Pewter Beer Stein/Server Kaiser Wilhelm I c. 1880s
Antique German Patriotic Pewter Beer Stein/Server Kaiser Wilhelm I c. Presented is a fantastic monumental German beer stein/server made in relief technique dedicated to the unification of Germany. It is made of thick heavy pewter with the body, handle and the lid made in sculptural picturesque way to hail German spirit. The front panel shows a carriage in Roman style with the Kaiser (Emperor) Wilhelm I driving it. In the back of the carriage sit German statesmen – Otto von Bismarck and Helmuth von Moltke, the architects of the creation of German Empire in 1871. Next to Kaiser is his son – Crown Prince Friedrich, the future Emperor Friedrich III. Next to the carriage we can see Emperor Charlemagne on a horse – the founder of the Holy Roman Empire. In front of him is a figure of an ancient German warrior, maybe Odoacer or Teodoric, or just a not specific ancient German warrior. On top of the whole scene is Nike – the winged goddess of victory. A group of three Cupids is flying near Nike. The rest of the body shows Coats-of-Arms of all German lands, cities and regions to show the significance of the Germany united in the Empire. The lid is toppled with the German imperial crown and the Prussian Eagle. It is engraved with a presentation inscription indicating that the stein was a gift to Herr Registator Kuekelhahn for his 25th jubilee working for the urban construction department. It was most likely created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the unification of Germany in 1881, and the presentation inscription was made much later. I have included in my photos pictures of Wilhelm I, Friederich III and also Bismarck and Moltke. You can see that the relief portraits on the stein are made with excellent details and likeness. The stein is in an excellent condition with some minimal age-related wear but no structural damages, losses, or repairs. The stein is quite large and impressive, standing 11.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 2L capacity I have inclu. Height: 11.5 in. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Antique German Green Glass Beer Stein High Wheel Bicycle Bike Theme c. Description: Presented is a fantastic antique German beer stein made of bottle-green glass with inlaid pewter lid. The body of the stein was hand-blown of bottle-green glass, stone-cut to create vertical facets engraved with copper wheel to make beautiful flower bouquets ornaments. The pedestal and handle were also stone-cut. The lid is pewter with bronze inlay showing two cyclists on high-wheel bicycles. The inscription above the cyclists reads: “All Heil” – that was the official motto of the sports of cycling in old Germany. It means “All well” literary but was used as Safe travel! The high-wheelers or “penny-farthing” bicycles were common in the 1880s, by the mid-1890s they were mostly replaced by the safety bicycles. Bicycle sports was very popular in Germany in the 1880s – early 1900s. There are many steins featuring bicycles and bicycle societies themes, but glass steins are quite rare among them for some reason. Great glass stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. It was manually made using several labor-intensive techniques, resulting in an astonishing piece. It is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Antique German Beer Stein Hunting Theme withDog Thumblift by Wächtersbach c. 1880s
Antique German Beer Stein Hunting Theme w/Dog Thumblift by Wächtersbach c. Description: This beauti ful and impressive antique German beer stein was made by the Wächtersbach ceramics factory – a factory with an old history of producing excellent quality ceramics items. The factory was established in 1832 as the Waechtersbacher Keramik in Brachttal- Schlierbach in Hesse, near the town of Wächtersbach. Between the end of the 19th and the middle of the 20th century, it was one of the most important German manufacturers of earthenware goods, both in terms of the scope of production and the quality of its design. However, the factory was making lots of everyday ceramics for German consumers, but beer steins were really scarce – there are just a few models that were made – and my guess is they were all made in late 1870s – early 1880s under the factory manager Max Roesler. The next manager, Christian Neureuther, moved the company towards Jugendstil/Art Nouveau direction. This stein was made in the early 1880s from very fine stoneware with some glass-based glaze. It was molded and filled with liquid clay, so the details became quite sharp and precise. The high-raised bas-relief decorations show hunting scenes on the sides with some hunting paraphernalia – a trophy bag, a horn, a rifle, and a long knife (along with a flask with some liquid) – in the middle. The lid is made of pewter with a beautiful figure of a dog for the thumblift and an inlay made of the same stoneware material with a hunting hat for the finial. It is marked with incised “Wächtersbach” and letters “H” and P. I was not able to decipher these. Th e stein is in excellent condition – no cracks, chips or any kind of damage or repairs. The lid is sitting very tight. It is 7.75 to the top of the thumb lift, 0.5L capacity. Height: 7.75 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.
