Antique German Enameled Glass Beer Stein Farmer’s Occupation c. Description: This very interesting stein was made in the so-called Biedermeier period of 1800 – 1820. It is made of blown crystal glass with a round pedestal and a massive hand-applied handle. The stein is nicely painted with glass enamel – this was a technique that required some serious skills and created beautiful artwork. Antique Early German Glass Beer Stein Blown and Molded withLion Thumblift 1830s
Antique Early German Glass Beer Stein – Blown and Molded with Lion Thumblift circa 1830s. Description: This beautiful and very old beer stein was made of blown glass in about 1830s – 1840s. The stein is very typical for the first half of the 1800s with large blown body and the ribbon type attached handle. The lover part of the body seems to be blown into a mold to create vertical facets without cutting. Very unusual and rare technique. Later, in 1860s, mold-blown glass steins became more common only to be replaced by pressed glass. This one shows the beginning of mold-blown technology. Nice pewter lid in perfect condition with a lion thumblift typical for late Biedermeier period of 1820 – 1830. Large 5-ring closed hinge. There is a pewterer’s hallmark on the inside of the lid – “Viehweg”. This mark belongs to one of the the master pewterers from the Vieweg (or Viehweg) family that was working in German Saxony for several generations. The stein is in excellent condition. Note, that the lower part of the handle is not broken – it was the method of attaching these days when the lower part was snapped after attaching. This method was used up to 1860s. Sometimes the snapped end was a little polished, but most of the time it was left as is. Please note – the stein is original from the period! I guarantee my description and dating. The stein is large and impressive, standing 7 tall to the top of the thumblift, 1 0.5 L capacity. Get Supersized Images & Free Image Hosting. Antique Large German Glass Beer Stein/Server Enameled Mary Gregory Type c. 1880s
Antique Large Beer Stein/Server Mary Gregory Type Enameled c. Description: Presented is a very large and beautiful pouring beer stein/server made in a style that is called “Mary Gregory type”. There are many speculations as to who Mary Gregory was. It is known that she worked for the Sandwich Glass factory in 1880. Most often, the name “Mary Gregory” is referred to the glass with white enamel paintings on colored glass. The technique, however, originated in Germany around 1870s – the American implementation of it was secondary. This serving stein is German, and it was made in the 1880s. The stein is made of hand-blown bottle-green glass with some texture on the surface, creating a wonderful optical effect. The handle is formed into a floral stem and manually applied. The lid is pewter with ornate thumblift and three ring open type hinge. The picture is painted with white enamel with different layers forming shades and even relief giving a fantastic impression. It shows a young girl in a snowy forest admiring a flower – maybe a first snowdrop. Great serving stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. It is very large and impressive, standing 13.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 2 L capacity. Height: 13.5 in. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With. Antique Early German Etched Glass Beer Stein withSwan Thumblift c. 1830s
Antique Early German Etched Glass Beer Stein Swan Thumblift circa 1830s. This beautiful stein was made in the 1830s, it is guaranteed old give ot take 10 years. It is made in a very traditional style of freehand blown glass with copper whell engraving and the pewter lid. The stein is decorated with etched drawings of stylized floral design. This type of decoration was produced with a small copper wheel. Cutting and engraving glass with lathe mounted copper wheels smeared with a grit paste is older than glass itself, originating in early Babylon or Egypt with cut gemstones. The belt driven lathe carries a range of interchangeable spindles, each carrying a copper wheel of varying width, diameter and profile, to suit the cut. A loose paste of emery or carborundum grit, oil and paraffin is applied to the turning copper wheel. The lid is pewter with the thumblift in form of swan spreading wings and lowering its neck, and 5-ring closed-type hinge. The animal/bird thumblifts were mostly used in the 1820s-1840s. I have a feeling that these swan or maybe it is heron? With lowering the neck is maybe connected with a loss of a person and comfoting gift. The lid is engraved with initials M. ” The lid is also stamped with the pewterer’s mark – “J. The stein is in excellent condition – a very rare occurence with the steins these old. There are no lines, no chips or any other damage to the body whatsoever. The lid is in good shape with no damage or repairs and is sitting pretty tight. The stein is 7 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Get Supersized Images & Free Image Hosting. Attention Sellers – Get Templates Image Hosting, Scheduling at Auctiva. Com. Antique German Jugendstil Glass Enameled Beer Stein des. By F. Ringer c. 1905
Antique German Jugendstil Glass Beer Stein Enameled des. Description: Great stein in Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) style. Classical hand-blown bohemian glass with enameled decorations. Designed by Franz Ringer – he was the most famous Jugendstil artist and designer who actually created this style – inspired by Jugendstill/Art Nouveau historically stylized in early 1800s aesthetics called Biedermeier. A prominent painter and sculptor from Munich, he also created many well-known beer stein designs for Marzi and Remy, Villeroy and Boch Mettlach, Reinhold Merkelbach and many others. The design consists of a medallion with a scene of a hunter shooting a lleaping stag. The stein is not signed by FR signature, but this design is quite famous. You can see it in my scan of a page from “The Beer Stein Book” by Gary Kirsner, attributed to Ringer. The lid is pewter designed as well in this specific Jugendstil style. The glass steins with F. Ringer designs are quite rare – they’re really hard to find. Please keep in mind the old glass is absolutely safe to drink from – it could be cleaned perfectly as opposed to antique stoneware, pewter or pottery. The stein is in excellent condition. It is 8 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5 L capacity. Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter.
