Antique German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein Red Overlay Wheel Cut c. 1860s
Antique German/Bohemian Glass Beer Stein Clear w/Red Overlay Wheel Cut c. Description: This beautiful old stein was mouth-blown of crystal glass around the 1860s. The majority of steins of this type were made in German Bohemia – now Czech Republic. It was made using a very complex and labor-intensive technique called “overlay” – a freshly-blown clear glass stein was submerged into a dark red glass to create a layer of red overlay. It was then stone-cut, creating round and oval facets that reveal the clear glass surface. The handle is attached to the red glass layer and shows the red glass layer inside the clear glass. The lid has a clear glass inlay engraved with the name “Benno”. The pewter mounts have a 5-ring closed type hinge and small feather-shaped thumblift – the typical techniques used in the 1850s – 1860s. The stein is in excellent mint condition. It is 6.25 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity Please note – the stein is overlayed with the red glass layer. It is not stained or flashed – the red glass layer is quite thick. Antique German Military Regimental Beer Stein Royal Bavarian 1 Inf. Description: Original regimental (Reservisten) stein c. Belonged to Reservist Josef Grundner of 9. Company of the 1st Bavarian Infantry Regiment stationed in Munich in 1898 – 1900. Made of hard porcelain with lithophane in the bottom showing a Portrait of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The front scene shows the regalia of the regiment with a crown and the Coat-of-Arms of Bavaria. The side pictures show scenes of everyday military life. Magnificent figural lid with a soldier standing by the Bavarian Lion, with Heraldic Lion representing the Kingdom of Bavaria for the thumblift. The bottom of the stein is damaged – there is a glued hole in it. It was a custom in some German families to make a hole in the bottom of someone’s very special stein when the owner dies, so nobody could drink from it again. There are many Regimental and also occupational stein with this kind of pierces holes. It is 11 tall, 0.5L capacity. Please note – this is original authentic regimental stein from the period. Antique German Etched Beer Stein Bicycle Bike HR Hauber & Reuther 1890 ALL HEIL. Beautiful antique German beer stein/pitcher w. Pewter lid from the late 1800’s. This colorful etched Stein is dedicated to the sport of cycling. It is showing some bikers and it is marked with the slogan. “All Heil” which means “Good Luck” – It is signed FB on top of the door. The stein was made by Hauber & Reuther – Freising Germany- one of the major names of german manufacuturers. The model number is 438. Simply a great piece of sports memorabilia. Good condition with some traces of age – thumb lift with missing piece available – see picture – small damage to stand almost not to be seen when displayed. 8.4 inch tall by 4 in Diameter. Antique German Pressed Glass Character Beer Stein – Miners Lamp c. Description: This unusual beer stein is made of pressed glass in the form of a miner’s lamp. The character steins in form of a miner’s lamp are well known among the character stein collectors. The glass mining lamp stein is the only glass character stein I know. The stein was enameled with the black enamel at the bottom and decorated with gilded highlights. The lid is made of pressed metal.
