Antique German Blown Stone Cut Glass Beer Stein Traveling Man Thumblift c. 1890s
Antique German Blown and Stone Cut Glass Beer Stein with Traveling Man Thumblift c. This beautiful and very elegant beer stein was made around 1880s – 1890s of blown glass with attached handle and glass inlaid pewter lid. It is made in a shape of a goblet with a short stem and wide foot and decorated with stone cut facets for great optical effect. The pewter lid is nice and ornate, with the glass inlay also stone-cut to create a diamond-like look. The thumblift is in a form of a travelling man with a backpack, a walking stick and a flask in his hand, very interesting and unusual. The stein is in excellent flawless condition. Please note – the glass beer steins are the ones that could be actually used for drinking – I wouldn’t recommend drinking from antique stoneware or pewter, but antique glass cleans perfectly. The stein is standing 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.25L capacity. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.
Antique German Green Glass Beer Stein High Wheel Bicycle Bike Theme c. 1880s
Antique German Green Glass Beer Stein High Wheel Bicycle Bike Theme c. Description: Presented is a fantastic antique German beer stein made of bottle-green glass with inlaid pewter lid. The body of the stein was hand-blown of bottle-green glass, stone-cut to create vertical facets engraved with copper wheel to make beautiful flower bouquets ornaments. The pedestal and handle were also stone-cut. The lid is pewter with bronze inlay showing two cyclists on high-wheel bicycles. The inscription above the cyclists reads: “All Heil” – that was the official motto of the sports of cycling in old Germany. It means “All well” literary but was used as Safe travel! The high-wheelers or “penny-farthing” bicycles were common in the 1880s, by the mid-1890s they were mostly replaced by the safety bicycles. Bicycle sports was very popular in Germany in the 1880s – early 1900s. There are many steins featuring bicycles and bicycle societies themes, but glass steins are quite rare among them for some reason. Great glass stein with wonderful theme and in excellent condition. It was manually made using several labor-intensive techniques, resulting in an astonishing piece. It is 9 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity. Antique Matching Pair of German Glass Beer Steins withPorcelain Inlays c. 1870s
Antique Matching Pair of German Glass Beer Steins w/Porcelain Inlays c. This very impressive and spectacular matching pair of glass beer steins were made around the 1870s. The steins were mold blown to create molded vertical facets on the inside with stone-cut circles on the outside, creating a beautiful optical effect. They were supplied with applied handles and pewter lids with pictures hand-painted over transfer outlines. They show a man and a woman dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes. Very nicely and precisely painted portraits. The glass (and sometimes stoneware or porcelain) beer steins with porcelain inlays featuring beautiful women were quite common. But here we have two identical steins, but one inlay portrays a woman, another one – a man. Most likely, they were a wedding gift for newlyweds – beer steins were quite expensive at the time and were considered perfect wedding gifts. Two beautiful old drinking vessels in excellent condition and historical and cultural significance! The steins are 5.5 tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.3L capacity. Height: 8.25 in. Materials: Glass, pewter, porcelain. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Track Page Views With.
